Ivan Nunez-Barreiro, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Beavercreek, Ohio, surrounded by his loving wife, Susie, and his children, Carlos, Ivan, and Maria.
Born on July 6, 1952, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ivan lived a life marked by service, adventure, creativity, and a deep love for family. He proudly served as an enlisted, officer, and civilian advisor in the United States Air Force, and embraced each posting as an opportunity to learn, explore, and share new experiences. His career took him all over the world, and among his many professional highlights, he was honored to work alongside dignitaries and collaborate with numerous prominent figures, experiences he cherished deeply. He enjoyed speaking about his varied projects and taskings, which included time with Shirley Temple Black, Manuel Noriega, Saddam Hussein, former President Bill Clinton, and the previous King and Queen of Spain.
Music was woven into every part of Ivan's life. A gifted musician and singer, his voice and melodies were a source of joy to those who knew him. Equally at home in the kitchen as on the stage, he opened his first restaurant at the age 22 while stationed in New Mexico, and later co-founded a successful catering business with Susie in Dayton, Ohio, where he also published a cookbook inspired by their travels. His dishes, much like his songs, were infused with his warmth, creativity, and zest for life.
Ivan's presence filled every room-whether through laughter, music, or the irresistible aromas of his cooking. His adventurous spirit, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones leave an enduring mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Susie; children, Carlos, Ivan, and Maria, and their spouses, children, and grandchildren; and a wide circle of extended family and friends around the world whose lives were enriched by his kindness and spirit.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal ceremony. Instead, Ivan hoped that those who knew him would celebrate his life in their own way—sharing a meal, playing music, telling stories, and remembering the joy he brought to the world. As Ivan would say, "¡Hay Motivo!".
