Listen to Obituary

Ira B. Gibson, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on October 12, 2026, in Dayton, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 1, 1937, in Pineville, Kentucky. Ira passed away a few days short of he and his beloved wife's anniversary. His family is comforted by knowing he and Juanita will share their day together.

Ira lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and quiet kindness. A devoted husband and family man, he was known as someone who was caring and kind, always looking out for his family and loved ones. He was a prankster and was known for his humor and making others laugh. He was a great father whose steady presence and hardworking nature left a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him.

He served honorably in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962. During his service, he was stationed in Germany and completed basic training at Fort Hood. Following his military years, Ira built a career as a carpenter. He joined Local 136 in 1970 and continued in that work until his retirement in 1994, a career that reflected his skill, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Beyond his work, Ira enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. He liked visiting casinos, going to the horse track, completing word searches, and spending time on the computer. He was also known for his ability to say the alphabet backwards, a gift that surely brought smiles to those around him. Among the roles he cherished most, Ira was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took special joy in his great-grandchildren, the ice cream bandits, who would come over to share in special moments and treats with him.

He is survived by his daughter, Myra Hoskins, and his favorite son-in-law, Roger Hoskins; his sons, Larry (Beth) Todd and Darry Todd; and his sisters, Brenda Wilder and Jean Lowe, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind the family circle he loved so deeply, and the memory of his caring nature and faithful presence will remain close to their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Gibson; son, Donnie Todd; parents, Eunice and Leroy Gibson; and his siblings Sammy Gibson, Danny Gibson, Burrell Gibson, Millard Gibson, Garfield Gibson, Bernley Gibson, and Avis Bray.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Dayton Memorial Park, 8135 N Dixie Dr, Dayton, Ohio 45414.

Ira will be remembered for his strength, his kindness, his deep love for his family, his humor, and the many ordinary moments he made special simply by being there. His memory will be cherished always.
