Hubert Clay Abney, age 81, of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026. He was born on July 23, 1944, in Irvine, Kentucky, where he was raised and spent his early years surrounded by family.
Hubert dedicated 33 years of service to General Motors before retiring. He was a hardworking and dependable man who took great pride in providing for his family and serving others through his work.
More than any title or accomplishment, Hubert cherished being a husband, father, and Pappy. His family was the center of his life, and he found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. As the youngest of 13 siblings, Hubert understood the importance of family, loyalty, and connection. He was known as the rock of the family, a steady presence whose wisdom, strength, and kindness could always be counted on. He never met a stranger and was truly a friend to all.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Abney and John Abney, and by 11 of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Phyllis Abney; his sons, Jon Abney and Jeff (Rachel) Abney; his grandsons, Tyler (Autumn) Abney, Hunter Abney, and Carson Abney; his future great-granddaughter, Athena Abney; his brother, Art Abney; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.
Hubert’s legacy is one of unwavering love, strength, hard work, and devotion to family. He was the foundation his family leaned on, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Public visitation to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton Xenia Rd Beavercreek, Ohio) on Friday June 19, 2026 at 11:00 am with funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery in Beavercreek.
