Holly Sue Stout Gibson
November 12, 1948 – May 11, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Holly Sue Stout Gibson, an accomplished artist and beloved member of her community, who passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025.
Born to the late Donald and Gloria Stout, Holly graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, and went on to earn a degree in TV, Radio & Film from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She later graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with a degree in Art, and pursued further studies at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. While in Austria, Holly attended the opera nightly in the student standing-room section, where arriving early and tying her gloves to the rope secured her a favorable spot.
Renowned for her exceptional talent in fine arts and sculpture, Holly was especially known for her exquisite miniature sculptures, which were featured in numerous magazines in the United States and Canada, including National Geographic and STAR. She served as president of the Westfield, New Jersey, Garden Club and as a board member of the Dayton Woman’s Club, leaving a lasting impact on her community through her dedication and service.
Holly’s adventurous spirit shone brightly during her career as a flight attendant for Continental and United Airlines, a role she cherished deeply, as well as through her extensive travels around the world with her family. Holly was married for 53 wonderful years, and together with her family, made their home in the suburbs of New York City for 42 years.
Holly is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Gibson, whom she met in Hong Kong; (no he’s a Scotsman) her son, Capt. Daniel Joel Gibson II, a master sea captain operating out of New York Harbor; her brother, Scott Stout, a local real estate executive; and her nephews Scott Stout Jr. and Max Stout.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness, creativity, and zest for life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Holly’s memory to the Dayton Woman’s Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving its historic landmark and supporting community initiatives.
