Hershel devoted 30 years of his life to General Motors, where he established himself as an invaluable employee whose expertise and knowledge were well respected. Known for his ability to repair virtually anything, Hershel's helpful nature extended far beyond the workplace. Those who knew him remember a man who was always willing to lend a hand, embodying a spirit of kindness and support that touched many lives.
His personality was a unique blend of loving warmth, a little stubbornness, slight impatience, and deep knowledge. These traits combined to create a character both endearing and respected—a man who cared deeply for those around him and was steadfast in his commitments.
Hershel was a devoted husband to both of his wives, Gwenia Faye Hatfield and Maezelle Hatfield, who predeceased him. His enduring love and commitment to family stood as one of his proudest accomplishments.
An outdoorsman at heart, Hershel cherished spending time fishing, enjoying the tranquility of the lake, RV'ing adventures, and visits to the cabin in Dale Hollow. His fondness for traveling around the country also took him to Indian Mountain and Renfro Valley, places he loved and returned to often. The outdoors were a refuge and joy for him throughout his life.
Hershel is survived by his sons, Keith Hatfield, Steve Hatfield, Russ (Sharon) Stringfellow, and Jerry (Heather) Stringfellow, who carry forward his legacy of strength and devotion. He also leaves behind beloved grandchildren Allison (Jesse) Roberts, Jesse (Jenny) Hatfield, Amanda (Ian) Stein, Heather (Tesh) Sen, and Hunter Bohram. His great-grandchildren Dayne, Landon, Bella, Maria, Maddy, and Maddox will continue to remember his guidance and love. Beyond his immediate family, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also mourn his loss and celebrate his remarkable life.
Hershel was preceded in death by his dear wives, Gwenia Faye Hatfield and Maezelle Hatfield, and his siblings Dorothy, Virgie, Rose, Aline, Dixie, Georgette, Harry, Bob, and Bill.
