Helga Carter, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on October 23, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on January 1, 1943, in Bleistadt, Czechoslovakia, Helga faithfully carried forward her rich heritage and devotion to family.
A proud retiree of the US Air Force Civil Service, Helga served diligently as the secretary to the Host Nation Advisor within the USAF European Command. Her strong work ethic and dedication were hallmarks of her career, reflecting her commitment to not only her profession but also to supporting the service members and families around her.
Helga was a woman of many passions and a strong personality that left an indelible mark on those who knew her. She was known for her German tenacity; her strong-willed nature and candidness made her a unique presence in the lives of her family and friends. She demonstrated an unwavering dedication to her loved ones. Helga's grandchildren, Brianna and Spencer, along with her great-grandson, Carter, were her number one priority, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments. She also held deep respect for the military service of her son-in-law, Steve, and her grandson, Spencer, and her daughter, Sandra.
Education played a significant role in Helga's life. She proudly obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Troy University in Alabama, demonstrating her determination to succeed. Upon arriving in America, she taught herself English by reading Archie comic books, a testament to her ability to adapt and persevere.
Helga’s relationship with her daughter, Sandra, was one of devotion and mutual care. Sandra ensured that Helga remained motivated and well-cared for, nurturing a bond that underscored their love for one another.
Helga had a close relationship with God and was steadfastly strong in her Catholic beliefs, a source of strength and guidance throughout her life and the lives of her loved ones.
In her leisure time, Helga was an avid animal lover who cherished her dogs—Boomer, Kaiser, and Archie. She displayed remarkable creativity as an excellent cook and, earlier in life, she was a talented seamstress and embroiderer. Some of her most loved hobbies were spending time completing crossword puzzles, watching nature documentaries, and reading - her favorite genre was horror novels. Her love for BMWs and sports cars was yet another reflection of her spirited character.
Helga is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Burkman (Steve); her grandchildren, Brianna Fintel (Sam) and Spencer Burkman; and her great-grandson, Carter Fintel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Anna Laengefeld.
