Helen Marie Sweet, known affectionately as Helen, passed away on February 28, 2026, in Vandalia, Ohio, at the age of 89. Her journey began on January 6, 1937, in Somerset, Kentucky, where she was born to William and Nannie Belle Pitman.
Helen was a beacon of happiness and love throughout her life. Her spirit was beautifully woven into the days spent with her family, particularly with her beloved grandchildren, Maia and Ky. She found joy in the laughter that filled her home and cherished every moment spent with her family.
A true adventurer at heart, Helen had a zest for life that embraced travel. She cherished spontaneous trips that took her to places like Florida and Texas, and she relished experiences such as gazing upon the majestic beauty of Niagara Falls. These memories of exploration painted her life with vibrant colors and showcased her desire to live fully and joyfully.
Married to her devoted husband Lonnie Sweet for an incredible 58 years, the bond they forged together was a testament to love and commitment. Helen and Lonnie nurtured a household filled with warmth, laughter, and adventure, raising their daughter, Brenda (Chris Edmondson) Linder with unwavering love and encouragement. She is also survived by daughter, Wendy Renee Robinson.
While Helen’s heart was ever-brimming with affection for her living family, she also carried the memory of those who preceded her. She is reunited in spirit with her parents, William and Nannie Belle Pitman, her brother, William Pitman, and her children Norris Singleton and Lynn Adams. These beloved souls left an indelible mark on her life and remained in her heart through all her days.
As we remember Helen, we celebrate a woman who radiated love and joy. Her legacy is one of happiness, family bonds, and a spirit that embraced life’s adventures. She will be profoundly missed by her loving husband, daughter, grandchildren, and the many other relatives and friends whose lives she touched.
The family will honor Helen's life privately.
