Helen Frances Schoenherr, a beacon of love, laughter, and warmth, departed this world on January 28, 2026, at the age of 74 in Dayton, Ohio. Born on March 12, 1951, in East Saint Louis, Illinois, Helen's journey through life was marked by her extraordinary spirit and an unwavering commitment to her family and friends.
Helen was a proud graduate of Collinsville High School, Class of 1969. She embarked on a dedicated career in the printing industry, serving her community with distinction as an administrative assistant for the American Legion Post #365 in Collinsville. She also served as secretary for Ladies Auxiliary Post # 365 and 22nd District president. Later she was the assistant lounge manager at the American Legion Post #200 in Huber Heights and Chaplain for the Ladies Auxiliary there. In all roles, her presence was felt deeply—as she made every interaction shine with her engaging personality.
Her love extended beyond her professional life; she embraced all moments, big or small, with vigor. Those who were fortunate enough to share time with her often recall cherished memories, such as the evenings spent with Linda, her beloved wife of 12 years. They would find joy in the simple pleasures of life, sitting outside by the fire, barbecuing, and reveling in the thrill of baseball on the big screen. Every hearty laugh shared was another thread woven into the rich tapestry of their life together, a testament to the joy she found in companionship with her for the past 20 years.
Helen's caring nature exemplified the depth of her character. She was known for her loving disposition, often described as someone who would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Her dry sense of humor and infectious laughter could brighten even the darkest of days, and her radiant smile left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Helen firmly believed that a life well-lived was one full of fun, even embracing dirt and adventure along the way.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Helen nurtured her passions with vigor. She inspired many as a coach for the Illinois Dyehard Team in the Senior Olympics softball league winning several gold and silver medals. She was an avid dart player, enjoyed playing poker, camping, and being outdoors, which reflected her zest for life.
Helen cherished her family above all else; they were her proudest accomplishment. She is survived by her devoted wife, Linda Raback, her step-daughter Elizabeth Rebenstorff and son-in-law Dustin, her cherished grandson Lincoln, and her supportive brothers, John Schoenherr with his wife Barbara and Charles Schoenherr. Her legacy continues through her beloved nieces and nephews: Gail Andress and her partner Rodney, Sara Asic and her husband Jason, Brian Schoenherr and his wife Rachel, and Kara Harmon with her husband AJ, as well as several great-nieces, nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Their lives are forever enriched by the love and wisdom she imparted.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Aloysius and Christine Schoenherr, and her previous partner of 31 years, Kathy Feig.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424.
