Helen A. Pulliam, born on November 25, 1944, in Midland, Michigan, departed this life unexpectedly on July 8, 2025, in Tipp City, Ohio. Throughout her life, Helen was a beacon of love and support to all who knew her.
After earning her Bachelor’s degree in education at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana, Helen began her career in teaching. However, her journey took a significant turn when she joined the U.S. Air Force. With unwavering dedication and commitment, she proudly served her country, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of honorable service. Her military career afforded her the opportunity to travel the world, enriching her life and broadening her horizons.
As a training and education officer, Helen went on to attain her Master's degree, which helped further her military career and demonstrated her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth. After her military career, she worked at Dayton Children's Hospital for 19 years. Beyond her academic and military achievements, Helen was known for her loving and caring personality, always showing concern for others and extending kindness to everyone she met.
A devout Christian, Helen was actively involved with her church community at Huber Heights Church of God. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and relationships.
Helen is survived by her brother, Michael Brainerd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie James Pulliam, as well as her parents, Floyd and Harriett Brainerd, and her sisters, Janice Bishop, Joan Thurston, and Kathy Erb.
Helen A. Pulliam leaves behind a legacy of compassion, faith, and dedication. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know her.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 10-11am at Huber Heights Church of God, 6900 Brandt Pike, Dayton, Ohio 45424. The service will follow at 11am. A luncheon will take place at church at 12pm. We will leave the church in procession at 1:15pm for a committal service will full military honors at Dayton National Cemetery, where Helen will be laid to rest at 2pm.
