Helen Imogene Crockett, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was called home to the Lord on April 22, 2025, in Kettering, Ohio. Born on August 15, 1929, in Reedville, Kentucky, Helen's life was a testament to resilience, love, and devotion, cultivated in the hollers of Kentucky where simple beginnings shaped her remarkable journey.
Raised in a humble environment, Helen learned early on how to make the most out of what little she had. Her childhood was filled with memories of resourcefulness, from crafting clothing out of burlap sacks to catching small animals for food. With the spirit of Annie Oakley, she bravely took to the outdoors, shooting snakes and squirrels, experiences that would shape her adventurous heart and unwavering courage.
Helen was a devout Christian with a caring nature, deeply committed to her faith and her family. She found joy in studying the Bible and was proud to be an esteemed member of the Church of Christ and Christian Union. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her home, as she often volunteered to sit with the sick in the hospital, striving to brighten their days with her warm presence and compassionate heart. Perhaps her proudest accomplishments were her familial relationships, which she cherished above all else.
Helen was a talented homemaker whose creative pursuits included painting, crocheting, sewing, and writing poems. Her passion for music resonated through her involvement in her church quartet, and she loved to express herself melodically, often playing guitar. Gardening was another of her delights; she nurtured flowers with the same love and care she gave to her family. Birdwatching also brought her peace, providing moments of tranquility in her busy life.
She is survived by her cherished children, Olivia (Wayne) Harper and Jeff (Laura) Crockett; her granddaughter, Tina Robinson; and her great-grandchildren, Kendal and Adisson, as well as her great-great-grandchildren, Peyton, Hayden, and Laylin. They carry forward her legacy of love, witnessing firsthand the strength and warmth that defined Helen’s spirit.
Her loving husband, Harold Crockett, who passed away 35 years ago, along with her father, Oscar VanHoose, her mother, Sally Parsons, and her beloved grandmother, Lucy Carter—who raised Helen—continue to await her reunion in the arms of eternity. She also leaves behind her seven brothers, who fostered lifelong bonds of brotherhood.
