Gwendolyn "Gwen" Gilliam, a beacon of kindness and warmth, left this world on June 1, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on April 22, 1954, in Lynch, Kentucky, she spent her life touching the hearts of everyone around her with her caring, compassionate nature. Gwen graduated from Cumberland High School and later attended Southeast Community College for a brief period, embarking on a journey that would lead her to a fulfilling career. She worked diligently as a secretary for the United Mine Workers of America and contributed her skills to the Billing Department at Corbin Baptist Hospital.
Gwen was dedicated to her family and friends. She is survived by her loving children: Natasha Dismuke, Stephanie North and James Gilliam; cherished grandchildren: Kaedence Fugate, Keegen Dismuke, Kimbree Dismuke, Blair North, Alyiah Davis, and Cameron Gilliam; and a multitude of extended family and friends.
Her personality radiated love; she was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether it was through her participation in community activities or simply being there for a friend, Gwen always put others first. Known for her strong convictions, she was not afraid to stand up for her beliefs, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew her.
Gwen found joy in life's simple pleasures, including her love for playing BINGO and the delight she brought to family gatherings by baking treats for her loved ones. Her warm laughter and comforting presence will be sorely missed.
Gwen joins her beloved parents, Harold and Susie Gilliam, alongside her brother, Larry Gilliam, as well as many aunts and uncles in eternal rest. Though their memories now reside in the hearts of those she has left behind, the legacy of her love and compassion will continue to inspire and uplift.
Family and friends are invited to honor Gwen’s life and legacy during her visitation on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by her funeral service at 10:30 AM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio, 45424. Burial to follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Gwen's family to help with final expenses.
Gwen's spirit lives on in the love of her family and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey. May her memory be a guiding light to all who had the privilege to know her.
