Gurney Wayne Moody, a beloved father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on December 19, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio, with his loving family by his side. He was born on November 3, 1945, in Johnson City, Tennessee, and lived a life rich in stories, laughter, and love.

Gurney was known for his stubborn spirit but above all, he was a man who adored his family. He found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Johnathan, and Elizabeth, often spoiling them and sharing stories from his own childhood that would fill the room with laughter. His protective nature shone through not just in his role as a family man, but also in how he valued and nurtured his relationships with friends and loved ones.

He had a characteristic goofy sense of humor that could brighten anyone's day, and his good nature was infectious. Gurney was an avid storyteller, weaving tales that captivated his audience, making everyone feel like they were there beside him as he relayed each story.

His hobbies also reflected his vibrant personality. Gurney loved to listen to Motown music and was known for his exceptional cooking skills. With his delicious chili and cornbread, he created not just meals but memories around the dinner table that brought his loved ones together. In addition to cooking, he enjoyed visiting flea markets, collecting firearms and coins, and indulging in the simple pleasures of life.

Gurney is survived by his children, Amanda (Ben) McKenney and Gurney (Brittany) Moody; and his adored grandchildren, Caitlyn, Johnathan, and Elizabeth. He leaves behind many other loving family members and dear friends who will miss his warm presence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gurney and Crete Moody; and his siblings, Johnny Moody, Jack Moody, Janice Hampshire, and Charlotte Norris. He is also reunited with his faithful companion, his dog, Saber.
