Gerri Lynn Nunn

August 7, 1950 — August 1, 2025

Tipp City, Ohio

Gerri Lynn Nunn, age 74 of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on August 1, 2025.

Gerri was born August 7, 1950 in Calvin, Virginia to James Davidson and Helen Duff.

She spent much of her childhood with her beloved grandparents in Dayton, Ohio, helping out at their family-owned grocery store一Hackney’s Grocery. She attended Lincoln Elementary and later Upper Sandusky High School. After high school, she returned to Dayton, where she met the love of her life, Tom, in 1972. They were married on September 5, 1973 in Jellico, Tennessee.

In her early years, Gerri worked at Frigidaire from 1974 to 1979, proudly contributing to the production of one of the last refrigerators made at the Moraine, Ohio plant, a piece now on display at Carillon Historical Park in Dayton. Since all the workers signed that final unit, you can see her signature if you visit the park, a small but lasting mark of her legacy.

Later, she transitioned into healthcare, working at Linden Health Care Center alongside her close friend, Barb. Gerri was deeply proud of her work as a nurse’s aide and being among the first in Ohio to take the state’s certification exam when new requirements were signed into law in 1989. She went on to train others in nursing homes across Dayton, helping them prepare for the same certification. She retired in 2000 due to health concerns but remained deeply proud of the difference she made in the lives of others.

Gerri had a wide array of hobbies that brought her joy throughout the years. She loved playing BINGO with her friend Arlene, and she was known as the “Bass Master” for her frequent and enthusiastic fishing trips to Carriage Hill Park. Her greatest joy, however, was gardening—wherever she lived, her yard was always the most beautiful in the neighborhood.

In later years, as her health shifted and when she could no longer garden, Gerri continued finding joy in new ways. She found a creative outlet in painting rocks, a hobby that allowed her to share small, colorful tokens of love with her children and grandchildren, many of whom still hold onto those hand-painted treasures. She delighted in cooking and baking, especially her famous chocolate crinkle cookies, peanut butter kiss cookies, soft sugar cookies, banana bread, and her signature peanut butter fudge一all family favorites that will long be remembered. Gerri was also a devoted bird lover, keeping feeders full for hummingbirds and finches, who always seemed to know when to knock on her window for a refill.

Above all, Gerri was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose nurturing heart extended far beyond her own household. She lovingly cared for her children and grandchildren, offering not just support, but a safe, steady presence in their lives. Her home was often a place of comfort for others as well. Gerri welcomed her siblings during difficult times and helped raise nieces and nephews with patience, warmth, and generosity. She gave of herself freely and never hesitated to show up when someone needed her. Her family was the center of her world, and she made sure each person felt cherished and cared for.

Gerri lived a life full of heart, humor, creativity, and care. She will be remembered for her deep love of family, her nurturing spirit, and the beauty she brought into the world—whether through a garden, a home-cooked treat, or a quiet act of kindness.

Gerri was preceded in death by her parents, James Davidson and Helen Duff; her daughters, Shawn Marie Kelly and Tami Lynn Kelly; grandson, Ricky Plummer; sisters, Debbie Duff and Missy Pearson; and brother Jeff Frick.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Thomas E Nunn Jr; children, Thomas (Teresa) Nunn III and Melinda (Rick) Halm; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister, Mary Lister; brother, Jim (Jean) Davidson, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
