Gerald Joseph Moss Sr.

Gerald Joseph Moss Sr., age 82, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on June 28, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Olan and Margaret Moss.

He was preceded in death by his father, Olan Moss; mother, Margaret Moss; and brother Ronald Moss

Gerald is survived by his long-time friend Cheryl, children Maryann Lewis(David), Maria, Gerald Jr., Christopher, Ashton and several grandchildren.

Gerald retired from the Dayton Daily News after many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed a wide variety of interests throughout his life and was happiest when spending time with those he loved. Gerald loved going to the racetrack and watching horse races. As a proud Philadelphia native, he was a devoted fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Flyers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Philadelphia 76ers. He was known for his gift of storytelling and enjoyed writing poetry, often sharing his thoughts and memories with family and friends. Above all, Gerald treasured the time he spent with his family, creating lasting memories that will be remembered for years to come.

Memorial Gathering will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Newcomer - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424). Funeral Service will be officiated at 6:00 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Newcomer - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424). Gerald will be laid to rest at Gates of Heaven in Berlin, New Jersey.
