Listen to Obituary

Gerald V. Mintz, Jr., affectionately known as Jerry, passed away on May 4, 2026, at the age of 75, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on November 29, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio.

Jerry was a kind and loving man, with a quiet nature and a great sense of humor. He was a good listener too because he didn’t want to be the center of attention.

Jerry joined the Navy in June 1970 and served for 4 years and then came back home to Dayton. He worked at the E G and G Mound in Miamisburg and loved working there. He was part of the team that took RTGTS to Cape Canveral for the Cassini Spacecraft. When the Mound closed, he took a job in Oak Ridge Tennessee at the Y-12 Facility and retired from there.

Jerry’s personal interests included spending time playing golf with his longtime friends, his sons, co-workers or anyone who wanted to play golf. He loved going to Tennessee for a weekend trip or a vacation with his family. Jerry also liked wood working and being in the garage. His favorite “sport” was eating ice cream or anything sweet while watching tv. Jerry gave his life to the Lord and attended First Dayton Freewill Baptist Church for many years and most recently attended Huber Heights Baptist Temple.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald V. Mintz Sr. and Marie Mintz Burchett; his in-laws, Lloyd and Mary Bowman; his beloved son, Corey Mintz; sister, Ava Mintz; uncle, Cal and aunt Jerline Livesay; cousin, JC Livesay; brother-in-law, Bill Simmons; and great nephew, Kyle Grubb.

He is survived and mourned by his wife of almost 52 years, Linda Mintz; their son, Jerry (Melissa) Mintz; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Ashley (Keagan) Simpson and Dylan Mintz. Jerry also leaves behind his brother, Donald (Debbie) Mintz. His extended family includes cousins, Denny Livesay (Birdie); brother-in-law, Gerald Bowman; and sister-in-law, Sheila Simmons. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and family.

The loss of Jerry is profoundly felt by his family and friends alike, who will remember him as a man of kindness, faith, loyalty and perseverance. His legacy of love and commitment will live on in the hearts of those privileged to have known him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 12:00  p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m., both will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Friends and family are invited to come together in remembrance and celebration of Jerry’s remarkable life. Pastor Caleb Gerber will officiate the service and the internment will be held at Beaver Cemetery, 1180 Dayton Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45385.

In honoring Jerry, we acknowledge a life well-lived, a spirit greatly loved, and a legacy that will endure. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered with respect and affection.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of their family and friends for supporting them through the many years of his many surgeries and other health issues.
