George Ivey, age 83, passed away May 31, 2025. George was born August 24, 1941 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Joe and Eddie (White) Ivey. George is one of five children with Ivan Ivey, Rosealie Everidge, Mima Hall, and Ima Johnson. In November of 1962, George married Nancy White. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Dayton, Ohio to find work and start their new life together. For the next 62 years, they would never leave each other's side.
George worked at several jobs in Dayton which included Vancleave Motel, Pepsi-Cola Company, Commercial Duction Heat Treat, Atta Boys Gas Station, and Fishel Construction Company, where he retired after 25 plus years of service. George was a hard worker and a great provider for his family. George and Nancy had four children of their own, and when their youngest was only six years old, they took in three of their grandchildren and raised them as their own. George never complained; he just worked hard to provide for his growing family. When extra money was needed, he would go to the Flea Market on the weekend where he would buy, sell, and trade; he greatly enjoyed this. He also enjoyed hunting, repairing lawn mowers, and working in the yard.
George is well-remembered for his walking; he walked everywhere and often said "Walking ain't crowded" when someone tried to give him a ride. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eddie (White) Ivey; wife, Nancy (White) Ivey; daughter, Peggy (Ivey) Proctor; brother, Ivan Ivey, and sister, Ima (Ivey) Johnson. George leaves behind two sisters: Mima (Ivey) Hall and Rosealie (Ivey) Everidge; three sons, George Glenn Ivey, Ricky Dale Ivey, and Jacob Dwayne Ivey; three adopted grandchildren, Reverend Timothy (Jennifer) Long, Norman (Lisa) Long, and Truman Jones, Jr.; 10 grandchildren, Aaron (Chasity) Beery, Reverend Nathan (Cierra) Ivey, Reverend David (Alayna) Ivey, Ricky Ivey, Jr., Adam Ivey, Austin Ivey, Isabella Ivey, Cameron Ivey, Allison Ivey, and Jocelyn Ivey; 15-great-grandchildren, Lucas Long, Alexander Long, Ian Palmer, Hunter Palmer Long, Ariana Long, Ezekiel Ivey, Hannah Ivey, Luke Ivey, Claire Ivey, Peter Ivey, Cooper Ivey, Carter Ivey, Kinsey Ivey, Abbigail Ivey, and Sofie Ivey; and a host of family and friends.
