George Calvin Estes, age 58 of Dayton, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born January 22, 1960 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Henry and Lela Estes.
George retired as a supervisor for the City of Dayton Bridge Maintenance Department. Along with his late mother, Lela Estes, he involved with Our Common Heritage and the Neighborhood Watch Association in Walnut Hills. Thirty-one years ago, George and Carole started a Little League baseball association. There motto was "Keeping the kids off the streets". They coached Little League Baseball and George coached his kids in all their sports. George was very involved with his community including Baseball Commissioner and he received multiple service awards for Appalachian Unsung Heroes and the Kentucky Colonel Award. George played in a poker league for years and was once named "Player of the Year".
George's children were his best friends. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and will be missed so much by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Estes; brother-in-law, Mike Watson; nephew, Travis Estes and uncle, Ernest Miller.
George will be missed by his loving wife of 33 years, Carole; sons, Ein (Jennifer) Hisel, George Houston (Jessica) Estes, Calvin Thomas (Jonda) Estes and Tyler Travis Estes; daughter, Madison Lela Maria Estes; grandchildren, Kasey Hughes, Kris Hughes, Khloe Hisel, Maddox Estes, Hailey Bowling, Rylie Estes, Wesley Estes and La'Niyah on the way; siblings, Debbie Watson, Peggy (Jeff) Reed and Ned Estes; very special friends, Mary and LouAnn Haburn; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family will receive friends Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 820 Bowen St., Dayton, Rev. Greg Konerman, Celebrant. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
