Gene E. Scott

Gene E. Scott, age 91 of Dayton, Ohio passed away April 3, 2026. He was born September 6, 1934, son of Hugh and Lola Scott. He grew up in Brown County and graduated from Decatur High School in 1952. He married the love of his life Ruth Cox in 1954.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene was sent to Kansas for basics, then to Germany. In 1959 he graduated from Ohio Highway Patrol academy. Gene's first post was in Gallipolis then Dayton. He retired as a Lt in charge of the Georgetown, Ohio post after 30 years. He then was in charge of security at the Dayton Power and Light Company on the Ohio River for 8 years, also 2 years as Chief in Lake Wynoka in Brown County. Gene was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Vandalia, Ohio as well as a member of the Tipp City, Ohio American Legion.

Gene had two daughters, Gayla Smith and Andrea Forbes; a brother, Andy Scott; and a sister, Doris Brunck all who have passed.

Gene is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth (Cox) Scott; grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah (Chris), Taylor (Brooke), Jenna (Luke), and Brent (Amber); great grandchildren, Marley, Lennie, Max, Bryson, Zac, Jackson, Jonah, and Millie; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 2pm at Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S Dixie Dr, Vandalia, OH 45377.
