Freda R. West

Freda Ruth West, age 104, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. Born on October 16, 1921, in Dayton, Ohio, Freda's early life was marked by a commitment to education and community service that would define her legacy.

Freda graduated from Jefferson High School before pursuing a degree in Elementary Education at Manchester College. Over the span of her 30-year career, she devoted 20 years to J.E. Prass Elementary School in Kettering, where she touched the lives of countless students with her kind and generous spirit.

Known for her loving, quiet, and reserved personality, Freda was a nurturing presence to her family and friends. She took great pride in raising her four daughters, instilling in them the values of generosity and kindness that she embodied. Her legacy continues through her daughters, Margaret Degler, Ruth (Michael) Wall, and Mary (Jim) Sunkes. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Rick Comingore, along with seven cherished grandsons, one favorite granddaughter, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, all of whom were sources of immense joy in her life.

Freda had a profound love for needle crafting, which provided her with joy and a creative outlet throughout her life. Later in her life, she discovered a passion for the Cincinnati Reds, becoming an enthusiastic fan and celebrating the excitement of the game. Her generous spirit and kindness created a warm and inviting atmosphere for family gatherings and friendships.

Freda is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Charlotte; her siblings, Delbert, Winifred, Armetha, Merle; beloved husband, Robert; daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, Grover.

Her gentle spirit and love for her family will not be forgotten. Freda will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd. Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Dayton Memorial Park.
