Franklin Morris Helton, known to most as Morty, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, entered into Jesus' presence on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on May 20, 1939 in Middletown, Ohio, Morty lived a life brimming with warmth, love, and dedicated service to his family and faith.
Morty was the beloved husband of Phyllis Helton for 67 years. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter and joy. Family was the center of his universe, and he adored spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether taking everyone to an amusement park or gathering for a spirited game of cards on Fridays, Morty cherished every moment shared with loved ones.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Morty enjoyed every sport imaginable and served as a his own person referee. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's athletic accomplishments, often traveling long distances to support them. His competitive spirit shone through in his love for ping pong, where he made it a point to teach his children how to play, ensuring that he always had worthy opponents at hand.
In his community, Morty was a dedicated member of the United Missionary Church. He held several significant roles, including serving as treasurer and was youth leader, and Sunday School Superintendent. His commitment to his faith and his church left a lasting impression on many.
Morty's personality was remarkable; he was full of life, and his vibrant spirit touched everyone who knew him. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, his family finds solace in their belief that he is with his Savior, Jesus Christ, and they hold onto the promise that they will see him again one day. The loss of Morty leaves a heavy weight on their hearts, but they are grateful for the many years he filled their lives with love and laughter.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Helton; his children, Joan Hicks (Dave), Suzi Johnson (Jeff), Shelley Riffell (Dwight), and Doug Helton; his grandchildren, Lael (Joel), Sheldon (Lisa), Jessica (Joel), Charlene, Derek (Rachel), Collin (Donna), Amber (Frank), and Justin (Anna); and his great-grandchildren, Brielle, Bryce, Jazlyn, Alora, Zaynah, Zach, Zaden, Hunter, Harrison, Carter, Cayden, Lena, Roman, Nona, Lain, Kipton, Kline, Vera, Nevin, Lanah, Ellie, Kaden, and David. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Helton (Carol), along with many other family members and friends who were touched by his kindness and zest for life.
