Frank L. Enscoe

November 21, 1937 — November 28, 2024

Tipp City, OH

Frank Lee Enscoe, 87, a lifelong resident of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, 2024, at his home in Tipp City, Ohio.

Frank was born in 1937 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Melvin Enscoe and Hazel Maerill Sheperd. In 1955, he graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in Dayton and started working for GMAC in the mail room that same year. From there, he transferred to Frigidaire Sales and finally to General Motors (GM) at the Moraine Plant in Dayton. In 1959, he married Judith Small, and together they had 4 children. In 1962, Frank adopted Judi’s two daughters, Cathy and Cheryl, from a previous marriage.

In 1979, Frank married Carolyn Lee Nash in Dayton, Ohio. They had an amazing life together and loved traveling and spending time with all of their grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In 2005, he retired after 50 years at GM. He was an accountant and was one of the company’s longest serving employees, starting in the mail room and rising to executive status. After his retirement, he often gave tours of the GM plant in Dayton before it closed. His wife, Carol, was the Manager of Corporate Special Events and Network Marketing at Kettering Health Network with offices in the mansion at Moraine Farm in Kettering, Ohio. Frank often helped with special events and became an expert tour guide at the mansion, giving tours to many doctors and dignitaries coming from around the world. His family members were very impressed with his knowledge of the mansion on the tours he gave them during his time there.

Frank was a huge Michigan University football fan traveling to Ann Arbor twice with his son-in-law (Mark Schott) to games and relishing in all rivalry with all Ohio State fans everywhere he went. He also loved watching Bengals football games with his sons and grandsons. Frank was an avid golfer, playing since he started caddying at the age of 13, and was on a league at Meadowbrook at Clayton Golf Course in his later years.

Frank was very interested in his ancestry, and even traveled back to Pennsylvania to meet some of his paternal relatives with the unusual name in the place where they arrived after immigrating from Wales and Scotland in the mid-1800s. He was also proud of his Polish heritage through his mother’s side and became a member of the Polish Club in Dayton. In addition, Frank was a proud member of the American Legion Post 668 in Dayton, which he joined through his daughter’s career military service.

Frank is survived by his children, Cathy Lynn Schott (Mark Schott) of Virginia, Cheryl Kay Silverstein (the late Barry Silverstein) of Arizona, Gary Lee Enscoe, of Peru, Steven Scott Enscoe of Florida, Robin Ellen Enscoe of South Carolina, and Jon Gregory Enscoe (Karen Morency Enscoe) of New Hampshire. He has 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Enscoe, his mother, Hazel Maerill Sheperd, his siblings, Patricia, Karen and Jerry Enscoe, and his beloved wife, Carol Lee Nash Enscoe.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 9:30am to 10:30am with his funeral service beginning at 10:30am at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. Dayton, OH 45424 to allow his dispersed family time to travel to the area. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Also, many thanks to all the staff and friends at Danbury Assisted Living in Tipp City-they were like family to him; the Grandview Hospital doctors and nurses who cared for him in his multiple hospitalizations there; and to the Day City Hospice nurses who sat by his bedside 24 hours a day during his final days.
