Frances June (Glen) Nichols, One June 1930 - Six October 2025. Born in Akron Ohio to Robert C. Glenn and Marie (Davis) Glenn. A graduate of Akron's South High School, she studied Music, Choir, Art and Natural Philosophy. She married Clarence Donald (Don) Nichols, also of Akron in 1948. They were blessed with four sons and three daughters: Karen Marie (Aberegg) of Ohio (1949) David (1951) (d) Donald Gene (1953-1972) Richard Edward (1954) Manhattan Kansas, Laurel Anne (McCauley) of Ohio (1958), James Roger (1960 - 2014) and Joyce Suzzanne (Hoblit) (1962) of Kentucky.
Born into a family with a proud Military tradition, Frances joined the Civil Air Patrol while in High school, learned how to fire rifles, direct aircraft in and out of hangers, send Morris code transmissions, and work on cameras. Her marriage to Donald Nichols was after his enlistment in the United States Navy, and they spent the next twenty years living in Ohio, California, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C., with children born in three different states as they moved "Pillar to Post" at the needs of the Navy. Settling in the city of Dayton, Ohio, Don and Frances had many community organizations which they were a part of, and many family members in the area to visit with. Don's unexpected passing in 1980 left Frances without her husband at the age of 49. She would never remarry.
Frances spent several years living with different children, but finally found a home of her own in the Dayton area at a retirement center. She would still travel to see her kids; having never learned to drive, she would get a bus ticket, pack a bag, and go visit for a couple of weeks. Her grandkids loved it! They were spoiled by Grandma and got away with everything while "Grandma Franny" was there.
"Frankie" was the youngest of three children: Robert (Bobby) Glenn, Ramona (Bonnie) Glenn (Huft) were her older brother and sister. Frances was the instigator of the nicknames; her big tough football player brother was Robert everywhere but home, they finally compromised on Bob. Ramona was Bonnie to everyone for the rest of her life, and and was happy with the change. But big brother Bob said that Francis is a guys name, so he was going to call her Frankie. This was the way he could get a rise out of her long after their kids and even grandkids were grown. He would just look at her and say Psst! Frankie!, and she would either laugh or leave the room. Or both. Bringing the nick-name back for her when she moved to Kansas in 2023 helped her to deal with a stressful time, where she felt so much of her past was being lost in the move.
Frances loved her family, kids, spouses, grandkids, great grands and even great-great-grandchildren, she wanted to hear about them all, and dig out the pictures! Grandchildren: Aaron Aberegg, Ethan Aberegg, Shawn Nichols, Thomas (Mikey) Dickinson, Jason Hoblit, Brandy Lewis, Sarah Adams, Robert Hoblit, Chris Wilson, Travis Nichols, Patrick Nichols, Alainna Nichols, Crystal Harvey, Deirdre Nichols and Donnie Nichols; Great-Grandchildren: 24; Great-Great-Grandchildren: 10.
