Frances Jean Duff, affectionately known as "Hank," left this world on August 29, 2025, in Kettering, Ohio. Born on October 3, 1930, in Berea, Kentucky, Hank was a force of nature whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.
Hank's legacy is woven into the fabric of Kettering, where she proudly owned and operated Hank's Pub for many years. Her career in the bar industry, which began in 1965, reflected not only her entrepreneurial spirit but also her deep connection with her community. She was known for her feisty character and strong personality, traits that endearingly defined her relationships. Friends often remarked, "You weren't a true friend of Hank's unless you had at least one argument with her during your friendship." This spirited approach to life garnered her a wealth of friendships, built on mutual respect and unmistakable love.
Hank was an avid dart enthusiast and took immense pride in running various Dart Leagues. Her dedication to the sport led her to be honored as a member of the Dart Hall of Fame. Additionally, she cherished her family immensely, always pouring her affection into the lives of her loved ones.
She is survived by her nephew, Michael (Debbie) Mantia, along with her great nephews, Michael Mantia, Tyler (Sarah) Mantia and David Mantia. Her great-great nephews, Myles and Henry Mantia, and her great-great nieces, Jennifer and Susan Mantia, held a special place in her heart, as she embraced them as her own granddaughters. Hank also leaves behind dear friends Tammy Freeman and Donna Mae, who stood by her through thick and thin.
Although Hank has been reunited with her parents, Park and Mary Nunley, and her beloved husband, Millard Duff, her siblings Bonnie "Buzz" Mantia, Thelma "Jimmy" Nunley, Helen Nunley, and Park "Buster" Nunley, Jr.; along with her nephew, Phil Mantia, now greet her in eternal peace. The love and memories shared among family and friends will forever keep her spirit alive in our hearts.
As we remember Frances Jean "Hank" Duff, let us celebrate her vibrant life, her indomitable spirit, and the warmth she brought into our lives. Her legacy will persist in the laughter shared over a game of darts, in the arguments that sparked fond memories, and in the love she held for her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed, yet her impact will resonate in the stories we tell and the love we carry forward.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at a later date by her family.
