Listen to Obituary

Floyd E. Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, in Tipp City, Ohio. Born on October 22, 1937, in Hyden, Kentucky, Floyd lived a full and vibrant life, touched deeply by his faith, love for family, and innate kindness that drew people to him wherever he went.

Floyd was a man of many remarkable qualities—funny and warmhearted, he was truly someone who “never met a stranger.” His welcoming nature and love for making new friends were evident in every conversation and every smile. A devout Christian, Floyd’s faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through joyful moments and challenges alike. His family was his greatest treasure, and his love for them was immeasurable.

His career spanned 36 years at General Motors, where he dedicated himself as a job setter before retiring. Beyond the workplace, Floyd found delight in the quiet beauty of gardening, nurturing both flowers and vegetables with an almost magical green thumb. The outdoors called to him through his passions for hunting raccoons and squirrels, and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to connect with nature in the way he loved most.

Floyd’s family remembers him not only as a provider and protector but as a source of laughter, wisdom, and compassion. He is survived by his loving children Angela White, Alesia (Lavell) Oglesby, and Anthony Jones, who carry forward his spirit and values. His grandchildren Ariel Oglesby, Shann (James) Stout, Jesa Oglesby, and Angel (Jordan) Dalton, along with great-grandchildren Jayden and Sadie Stout, were a continual source of joy to him, bringing light to his later years. He is also lovingly remembered by his brother Len Richard Hamrick and sister Belvie Roberts, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who treasured his companionship.

He is preceded in death by his late wife of 55 years, Betty S. Jones, and his parents Elbert Jones and Dora Hamrick, his brothers Edmond Jones, Johnny Hayes Hamrick, and Jim Jones, and sisters infant Mary Louise Hamrick and Bonnie Jean Morgan.

Family, friends, and all who knew Floyd are invited to gather in his honor for visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., with the funeral service following at 6:00 p.m. The burial will take place on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Dayton Memorial Park, located at 8135 N Dixie Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45414, at 2:00 p.m.

Though Floyd has departed from this world, his warmth, faith, and love will forever remain rooted deeply in the hearts of his family and friends. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to God and loved ones. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
