Floyd "Butch" E. McGlothin

Floyd “Butch” Edward McGlothin, 86, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully in Dayton on September 26, 2026. He was born on January 19, 1940, in Dayton to Floyd and Ellen McGlothin.

Butch will be remembered as a kind, friendly, and easygoing man whose simple joys brought him great happiness. He worked at Dorothy Lane Market for several years and was known for the warm and steady way he carried himself through life. He also proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Essex.

Fishing was at the heart of Butch’s happiest times. All he ever wanted to do was fish, and he absolutely loved being out on the water. It was a pastime that became one of the lasting memories he leaves behind, including the moments when he would sometimes fall out of the boat, stories that surely brought laughter to those who knew and loved him. His best moments were with a fishing pole in one hand and a can of Pepsi in the other or sitting behind a plate of ribs; pleasure that made life meaningful to him.

His faith was an important part of his life. Butch loved going to church and was a member of Community Harvest Church in Germantown, Ohio. He especially enjoyed listening to pastors D. Harney, Allen, Larry, and Jimmy, and that connection to church remained a treasured part of his days.

Above all, Butch will be remembered by his family. He is survived by his children: Jeff (Betty) McGlothin, Bill (Brenda) Twigg, Lynn Faulkner and Sharon (Ed) Pence. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Shannon (Patrick), Leaghla Hirschfield, Tamara Kilmer, Jason (Louise) Pence, Jennifer (Jeff) Byrd, Jimmy Pence-Vires; numerous great-grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends. Their lives carry forward the love, memories, and enduring presence of a father and grandfather who meant so much to them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ellen McGlothin; beloved wife, Eula Marie McGlothin; son, Dean McGlothin; daughter, Roni Keating; grandsons, Timothy McGlothin, Stevie Twigg, and siblings: Margaret Stratton, Patricia Crossley, Ron McGlothin and Harold McGlothin.

Those who knew Butch will remember a man who found joy in faith, family, fishing, and the familiar comforts of everyday life. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Community Harvest Church, 6970 Weaver Rd in Germantown. Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
