Eve Katherine Sumner, born on March 6, 1923, in Canonsburg, PA, passed away peacefully at her home in Beavercreek, Ohio, surrounded by her family, on August 14, 2026. She graced the world with her presence for 103 memorable years.
Eve’s life was marked by devotion—to her family, her work, her faith, and her community. Those who knew her would remember her as kind, loving, hardworking, and welcoming. Her warmth touched everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression with her selfless nature and steadfast values.
A dedicated professional, Eve worked in retail at JC Penney and Meijer. She continued working until she was 88 years old, a testament to her remarkable work ethic and vibrant spirit.
Eve’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Marianne Mayne, grandchildren Stephen L. Mayne II, Amber Mayne, and Michael Mayne, and great-grandchild Molly Mayne. Her love for them was a constant source of strength and inspiration, and her enduring legacy will live on through generations. She is also loved by generations of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband William, whose memory she cherished; her siblings John, Harry, Olga, Frank, Irene, and Andrew, each of whom remained dear to her heart throughout her life.
Deeply involved in her faith, Eve was one of the founding families of Ascension Catholic Church. She took great pride in volunteering for the church, making lasting contributions to the congregation’s sense of community. Even when she could no longer attend in person, she would faithfully watch Mass every Saturday, ensuring her steadfast devotion never wavered.
Beyond family and faith, Eve found joy in playing cards, quilting, and listening to the Cincinnati Reds on the radio. These pastimes brought her much happiness, and she shared her interests generously with friends and loved ones alike.
A private service for Eve Katherine Sumner will be held at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 8200 W National Rd, New Carlisle, OH 45344. As she is laid to rest, her family and friends will cherish the memory of a life well-lived—filled with kindness, dedication, and boundless love.
