Ethel Fleming, age 87, of Dayton, passed away February 24, 2026. She was born November 15, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Clifton and Bertha Barnett. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husbands: Henry Gilbert Ray, Sr., Linville Jenkins and David Fleming; children: Linda Sue Ray Murdock, Brenda Jenkins, Henry Gilbert Ray Jr and Linville Jenkins Jr; grandsons: James Hicks Jr and Shawn Anthony Ray; son-in-law, Dozy Newbourn; 9 brothers and sisters; uncle and aunt, Albert and Vern Large; and her beloved dog, Boomer.
Ethel is survived by her children: Debbie Ray, Cheryl Jenkins Newbourn, Brian Jenkins Sr (Jen) and Beth Ann Fleming (Dan); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her cat, Miss Kitty.
Ethel was a life member and bartender at V.F.W. Huber Heights Post # 3283 and retired from there after 45 years of service. She was also a life member of AmVets Post # 24 and American Legion Post # 200. Ethel shared many friendships and memories with loved ones from the V.F.W., AmVets and American Legion. She loved gambling and playing BINGO. She enjoyed riding around to just get air and reminiscing about old times.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 10. Eulogy will be done by Angel Hicks. Burial will follow at Willow View Cemetery.
