Ernest Lee Purvis, Sr., age 70 of Dayton, passed away suddenly on February 14, 2018. Ernest was born in Sand Gap, KY to the late Fredia and Willard Purvis. Ernest proudly and honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning 2 bronze stars for his service. He was a retired roofer from Enterprise Roofing. Ernie was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Ernie was a very generous man, giving back to many charities including the Wounded Warrior Project. He took great pride in his family. Ernie was a loving and caring father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his sister, Omeline Arnold; brother, Lester Purvis, Sr.; and nephew, Lester Purvis Jr.
Ernest leaves to cherish his memory; children, Ernest Lee Purvis, Jr. and Donna Purvis; grandchildren, Kristen (Harry) Johnson and Tamara (Doug) Goubeaux; great-grandchildren, Tony, Dalton, Emmalee, and Kenton; brothers, Paul Purvis and Chuck Purvis; special nieces and nephews, Jesse, Joyce, Chuck Jr., and Hank; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Newcomer- North Chapel at 1pm. Family will greet friends and loved ones for one hour prior (12pm-1pm). Burial and military honors to follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernest's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
