Ermal Ray Tackett, Jr. passed away on October 2, 2026, in Troy, Ohio, at the age of 80. He was born on October 8, 1945, in Beckley, West Virginia.
Ermal proudly served in the United States Army. In his working life, he owned his own business, Tackett's Fence and Decks, for many years. He was known as a hard worker who never fully retired. Work was at the center of his life, and he instilled that same strong work ethic in his family. He was also the man of the family, a steady and commanding presence who took the lead and guided those around him. Outside of work, he loved spending time outdoors, relaxing, and listening to music in his free time.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ermal Ray Tackett, Sr.; his mother, Ruby (Willey) Tackett; his beloved wife, Gloria Tackett, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage; his grandson, Kyle Ray Davis; his son-in-law, Charles F. Davis, Sr.; his sister, Dartenella Allen; and his cousin, Teddy Ray Tackett.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Davis; his grandson, Charles Davis, Jr.; and his great-granddaughter, Chloe Davis. He is also survived by his sisters, Lisa Tackett and Teresa Tackett; his brothers, David Tackett and Johnny Tackett; and his cousins Gary (Margaret) Tackett, Johnny Tackett, and Betty Sue Tackett; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. His family will remember him as a man whose strength, leadership, and dedication shaped the lives of those around him, and whose example of hard work will continue to endure through the generations of his family.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Day City Hospice and Troy Rehab and Health Care staff and nurses for their kindness and phenomenal care.
