Elizabeth (Betty) Oomen, 86, wife of the late Dirk Oomen, died at home on January 21st, 2016 in Beavercreek, OH, where she had lived for the last six years with her daughter, Janet Wentworth, and Del Thomas. Betty was well known in Del and Janet's social circle, which included the Kittyhawk Ski Club, the Flying Ghillies Scottish Dancers, and the Dayton Hash House Harriers running club.
Betty was a longtime resident of Middletown, New York, and it is there that her heart remained until her death. She was born in High Hesket, England, on January 15th, 1930, the fifth of six children of Violet and Stephen Nicholson. She immigrated to New York City in 1952 and later moved to the Fair Oaks area where she lived for nearly six decades. She was employed by Mid-City Transit for many years.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, and dear friend to many.
In addition to her daughter, Janet, she is survived by: son, Stephen Dunn of Salt Lake City, UT; son, James Schefcick (Nancy) of Hannibal, NY; daughter Carol Hunter (Tony), Evans, GA; son Peter Schefcick (Kristin) of Satellite Beach, FL; step-son Paul Oomen (Jane) of Pinebush, NY. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Christina Balbach (Ryan), Sarah Oomen (Robert Gailie), Hannah Lebo (Spencer), Andrew Wentworth (Rebecca), Louise Fite (Jason), Gabrielle and Rachel Hunter, and Ethan and Eli Schefcick; as well as seven great-grandchildren.
