Listen to Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Broomall, known to family and friends as Betty Ann, Betty, or Liz, (depending on the decade and relationship) passed away peacefully at home while journeying through vascular dementia. She was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth Julia and William John Broomall, cherished sister to her late brother William John II (aka Bill or Billy), and a decades long friend to Barbara Zane and Elaine Green.

Betty is survived by her devoted daughter Lori, her best younger brother Hugh aka Shorty, his wife and Betty's sister-in-law Christy, and Bill's wife and Betty's sister-in-law Carol Ann. She was a devoted Grandmom to Mark and Elizabeth (Cody), and Great Grandmom to Isabelle, Malachi, Brantley, Maverick, Paisley, and Katherine, and a wonderful Aunt to her nephews and nieces.

Betty was born in Wilmington and grew up in the 1950s and 1960s in New Castle, Delaware, living with her parents and brothers in the little blue house on Memorial Drive. She attended St Peter the Apostle in New Castle. As a teen and young adult, she enjoyed a rich life of dancing, bowling, and fun with her brothers and their growing families, and loving her various cars. As her interests changed, she dabbled in ceramics and porcelain dolls, collecting and selling antiques, gardening, traveling, going to movies, and doting on her grandchildren. She loved being busy, loved being entertained and educated, and one of her biggest adventures was taking a weeks long road trip with best friend Elaine after retiring, traveling the Southeastern portion of the states. She loved Little Cuba in Miami.

Betty was the most incredible Mother to Lori; loving, devoted, encouraging, inspirational, and always with an unwavering belief that Lori could do anything. She gave Lori her love of reading and music, a sense of adventure, an empathetic nature, and strength beyond measure. Her love is something every child should experience, and has shaped Lori into the woman she is today.

She devoted 42 years to Electric Hose and Rubber in Wilmington, Delaware, and to Dayco Corporation in Dayton, Ohio, working her way up in the company to become an admired manager and leader, completing her career as the Director of IT. During her years at work, she forged many lasting relationships, including special ones with Rick, Mike, Frank, and Chris.

After Lori moved out and started a family of her own, Betty served as a docent at the Dayton Art Institute and volunteered as a reading tutor for adults at the Dayton Library. She also spent several of her retirement years caring for a former colleague and friend, Shirlene, along with Elaine and 'Little Betty'; they were tireless advocates for her to the end.

As a family, our most cherished memories are rich with holiday laughter, Halloween costumes, concerts, dinners out, cheering on kids at sporting events, theater outings, vacations, weddings, births, and birthday celebrations. Though our hearts are shattered, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
