Richard Curt Lowary OD, age 85, of Centerville passed away Friday, July 10, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on January 25, 1935, the son of the late Richard and Martha Lowary.
He was a graduate of Columbus North High School. He continued his studies and went on to graduate from the College of Optometry at The Ohio State University in 1958. He practiced Optometry for 46 years. He was also a clinical instructor at the OSU College of Optometry for 20 years.
He was a 50 year Mason, belonging to the Blue Lodge, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and York Rite. He was an avid traveler throughout his life. He also had a passion for Native American culture.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Grant Lowary and Martha (Wilson) Lowary, his sister Janet (Cossaboom-Lowary) Hand, his sister-in-law Mary Janet (Cramer) Lowary and his uncle Roger Edmund Wilson.
Survivors include his brother Lowell Lowary of Franklin, IN, sister Mary Harrison (Richard) of Marysville, OH, brother-in-law David Hand of Centerville, OH , aunt Carolyn Wilson of London, OH, 4 nieces, Kathleen Khamis (Dr. Mike) of Richmond, IN, Amy Hoeppner (Ronald) of Greenfield, IN, Ruth Rogers (Matthew) of Logan, OH, Joy Osborne (Brenden) of Liberty Township, OH, 1 nephew, Jason Harrison (Kelly) of Maryville, OH, and several beloved great nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service for family at Somerford Cemetery in Madison County, OH, (830 West Urbana-London Road, Ohio Route 56) on Saturday July 18th at 10:30 am being performed by Reverend Benjamin Phillips of Saint George's Episcopal Church of Dayton. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
