Dorsa "Doris" Hensley, born on January 14, 1939, in Harlan, KY, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton. Doris lived a life completely devoted to her family and community, known far and wide for her generous spirit and kind heart.
For most of her life, Doris was a loving homemaker, pouring her love and care into raising her family. She spent 20 years working at True Photo in Dayton, where she developed film, but her true passion lay in making a difference in the lives of those around her. Doris had a delightful spirit and a sense of humor that could light up a room. She was the strong-willed matriarch of her family, always putting others first and being selfless in her giving, though she stubbornly resisted any attempts to prioritize her own self-care.
Those who knew Doris could easily recall her knack for finding joy in simple pleasures. She had a unique habit of collecting day-old baked goods from the store, bringing them to family, friends, and church, embodying her selflessness through such sweet gestures. She was also an avid bargain hunter, often spending joyous afternoons rummaging through yard sales and Goodwill, relishing in all the old toys she found. Christmas gatherings were particularly special to her; she made it a priority that all her loved ones received gifts equally, showing her caring nature and attention to detail.
Doris had a soft spot for nature; she loved watching and feeding birds and took pleasure in collecting old coins, especially those nostalgic 50 cent pieces. While she might not have said it outright, her love for her family was evident every day through her actions and comforting pats on the back.
She is survived by her children, Cecilia Price, Tonya McFadden, Wendell (Sumi) Hensley and Vicki Robbins; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Sue Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.
Doris joins her parents, John and Rose Nell Broyles; her husband of 64 years, Wendell Hayword Hensley; her grandson, Benjamen McFadden; and her son-in-law, Mike Robbins in eternal rest.
Doris Hensley's legacy of love, generosity, and humor will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind cherished memories that will be fondly remembered by family and friends for years to come.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 6-8 pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. The service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband at New Carlisle Cemetery.
