Dorothy Mildred Brown, a cherished mother, grandmother passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, in Jamestown, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 5, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio, Across 106 extraordinary years she was a centurion in every sense, leaving behind a legacy of strength, wisdom and enduring love.

Dorothy’s early years were shaped by the poignant realities of her time. Leaving high school after the 10th grade, she entered the workforce during World War II, contributing to the nation's efforts by working in factories. This period forged in her a deep sense of pride and a hardworking spirit that stayed with her throughout her life. She later spent the majority of her career as a clerk typist at Scholastic Magazines, where she worked diligently for Mr. Tinch, earning not only respect for her professionalism but also admiration for her meticulous, well-kept, and proper demeanor.

Though Dorothy was naturally private, quiet, and shy, those close to her knew her as a woman who exuded warmth and grace in her own reserved way. She took immense pride in maintaining a clean and orderly life and was known for her dignified presence. Family was Dorothy’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. Her life was a testament to love and devotion, especially reflected in the homes she nurtured and the memories she cherished.

Her interests were many and varied, reflecting a spirit that found joy in simple, meaningful pleasures. A gifted cook and crocheter, Dorothy also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing. Yet perhaps above all else, her favorite joy was dancing alongside her beloved husband Urshel, whom she met at a high school dance—an enduring love story that touched all who knew them.

Dorothy’s family, now her enduring legacy, reflects her life's deepest connections. She is lovingly remembered by her son Larry (Tina) Brown; her grandchildren Kym (Matt) Deel Shaw, Jeff (Meggan) Deel, Derek (Jill) Brown, Jody (Jeff) Giannobile, Shelly Horney, and Mark (Danielle) Brown; and by a large, adoring clan of great-grandchildren—Leigh Ann, Billy, Bobby, Nick (Mary Kate), Savannah, Anika, Mallory (Steve), Spencer, Jessica (Luke), Jackson, Avery (Kasey), Luke, Parker, Joseph, Alex, Carson, Nick, Andrew, and Paxton. The family circle extends warmly to her great-great-grandchildren Brian, Jack, Kylan, Leo, and Levi, who carry forward her legacy.

Dorothy’s passing leaves a void filled with precious memories. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Urshel; her son Rodney Brown; daughter Roberta Deel; her parents William and Alice Hartley; her adored grandson Michael Brown; grandson-in-law Stephen Horney; and her siblings Pat Denlinger, Paul Hartley, Stanley Hartley, Muriel Yount, Howard Hartley, Sidney Hartley, Harold Hartley, Ralph Hartley, Douglas Hartley, and Lillian Somers.
