Dorothy Jean Mehl, age 87, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2018. Dorothy was born in Kansas City, MO to the late Donald and Anna Smith on May 1, 1931. Dorothy had a heart for serving others and showed her passion though her work at Vandalia City Schools as a cook. She had a kind and loving heart and she showed her compassion to anyone who crossed her path. Dorothy could light up a room with her warming smile and bright blue eyes.
She was an active member at Vandalia Christian Tabernacle and loved to volunteer as a greeter and welcome people with open arms to church. She was also a life long member of the VFW and Amvets. Dorothy was a caring, loving, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband to whom she was married 30 years, John Joseph Schroeder; mother, Anna Smith Nemick; father, Donald Smith; step-father, Ellis Nemick; grandson, Darren Reagan; and brothers, Lloyd "Bud" Smith and Ellis John Nemick, Jr.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, loving husband of 33 years, Oliver "Warren" Mehl; children, John Schroeder, Paul (Sheila) Schroeder, Anna Thibodeaux, and Patricia Schroeder; step-children, Douglas Mehl and Mindy Chadwell; sister, Patricia (Roy) Spicer; brother, John (Anita) Nemick; grandchildren, Paul Aaron, Seth. Andrea, Amy (Greg), Tamara (Timothy), Shane, Ashley, and Jenny; adoptive daughter, Shar'on; and numerous loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dorothy's family will greet friends and loved ones on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Newcomer - North Chapel from 5pm - 8pm. A graveside service will be held at Rosehill Burial Park in Hamilton, OH the following day, Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 1pm..
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to Hospice of Dayton or the charity of your choice.
