Doris Elaine Coates, born on May 23, 1941, in Fairmont, West Virginia, passed away on September 29, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones, in Dayton, Ohio. Doris lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and a special affection for her family and friends. Throughout her life, she embraced her roles not only as a dedicated professional but also as a cherished family member and a beloved friend.

Doris spent many years in the Spring Valley, Ohio area, followed by several years later in life in Somerset, Kentucky, where she resided to be closer to her daughter, before they both ultimately moved back to the Dayton, Ohio area, in recent years.

Doris took pride in her work ethic. Her career was marked by noteworthy contributions at Key Bank, Don Thompson Excavating, and the Lent Insurance Company. She was also a consistent source of positivity, quick to give a compliment to others, and always showing gratitude.

Known for her humorous spirit, affectionate nature, and sociable personality, Doris had a unique ability to make those around her constantly feel valued and loved. She adored her family and could often be found giving hugs and spreading warmth. She loved getting out and mingling, a true "social butterfly." Doris had a variety of interests; she loved knitting, reading books, swimming, and shopping. These hobbies enriched her life and allowed her to create lasting memories with those she cared for.

Doris will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Melinda (the late Larry) Fletcher, along with her grandsons, Shawn (Josephine) Fletcher and Shane Fletcher. She was a proud “GGma” to her great-grandchildren: Navaeha, Hayden, Natalya, Jayce, Samuel, and Luke. Her legacy of love continues through them. Doris is also survived by her sister, Donna Lemon, several nieces and nephews, and her dear friends, Ronnie and Mary Cantrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Laura Lemon, her beloved husband, Don Coates, and her brothers, Delmar Lemon and Dale Lemon.
