Doris "Dodie" Chatterton, born on August 13, 1933, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. A beloved matriarch and cherished friend, Dodie's life was marked by unwavering devotion to her family, a vibrant spirit, and a zest for life that endeared her to all who knew her.
After dedicating many years to raising her five sons—Chris (Connie) Chatterton, Rusty Chatterton, Randy (Terri) Chatterton, and George (Rachel) Chatterton III—Dodie pursued a fulfilling career as a hairdresser, continuing to touch lives in her community. Her fun and easygoing nature fostered a home that was welcoming not only to her children but also to many neighborhood kids who were often welcomed as part of the extended family.
Dodie was a passionate lover of pets, having shared her life with many beloved animals over the years. Above all, her greatest joy came from being a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, where her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Diane, Steve, Clay, Carrie, Ian, Ryan (Danielle), Sean (Megan), Evan (Laura), George IV (Jess), Teresa, and Trevor; her great-grandchildren: Allison, Bradley, Kylie, Austin, Davin, Silas, Henry, Teddy, Clary, Hazel, Madeline, Aliyah, and Millie; and her great-great-grandchildren: Paisley, Presley, Journey, Jackson, Kinsley, Wyatt, and Weston.
Dodie had an adventurous spirit as well, being an active member of the Road Knights of Dayton and an avid bowler. Her love for Neil Diamond deepened as she became a proud member of his fan club, often sharing this passion with friends and family.
She leaves behind her best friend, Peg Laidly and Peg's children: Bill (Lina) & children: Hannah, Meredith & Izzy; Kathy (Bill) & children, Shannon (Tim) with children, Abby, Luke, Charlotte & David; Michael, and Maryanne with children, Karli & Morgan; and many more dear friends including Bill "Chopper" Minser, Tom Baker, Shirley Mundinger, Bill & Shirley Sanders, Joyce Kelley, Melcena "Rose" Darrah, her Road Knights Family, and her Wayside Chapel Family who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Dodie is predeceased by her cherished son, Wes Chatterton; her daughter-in-law, Lori Chatterton; her parents, Ted and Georgianna Hampton; her parents-in-law, Vernon and Dorothy Chatterton; the father of her children, George Chatterton Jr.; and her sisters, June and Judy.
As we remember Doris "Dodie" Chatterton, we celebrate a remarkable woman whose kindness, love, and dedication to family and friends enriched countless lives. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will forever remain with those she touched.
