Donald Z. Shump, age 88 of Dayton, passed away on Sunday May 15, 2011. He was born on February 4, 1923 to the late Alfred and Ida Shump. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Alma Mae Shump; two brothers, Elwood and Richard Shump; and one sister, Hilda Wheeler.
Donald is survived by his three children, David (Sherene) Dillon, Donna Davis, and Ken (Deborah) Shump; ten grandchildren, Heidi, Chris, Jeffrey, Kevin, Teri, Travis, Scott, KaCee, Matt and Stanley; and four great grandchildren, Sophia, Lilia, Eleanor and Amelia.
Donald served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and subsequently the United States Air Force, where he retired in 1968. Prior to joining the service Donald served in the Civilian Conservation Corps on a dam construction project in Caldwell, Idaho. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the U.S Postal Service until his retirement in 1984. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. He spent much of his retirement cheering the Cincinnati Reds.
