Donald J. Richmond, "Don," a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on August 31, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, Don's life was marked by a commitment to service, family, and faith.
Don began his career as a press operator at NCR in Dayton, where he also worked concurrently with the Miami Township Police Department. His dedication and hard work led him to join the police department full-time, where he became the Assistant Police Chief. Don was proud to be among the first six police officers employed by Miami Township, showcasing his pioneering spirit in public service.
A man deeply rooted in his faith, Don was a dedicated member of Silver Creek Baptist Church in Berea, Kentucky, where he took on the significant role of teaching Sunday School. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, providing guidance and strength throughout his journey. Known for his humor and warm smile, he was a stubborn yet endearing figure whose laughter resonated within his family and community.
Family was of utmost importance to Don, and he was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Clara Richmond, who has preceded him in death. Together, they cultivated a loving household where values and faith were paramount. Don is survived by his son, Greg (Pam) Richmond, and he took immense pride in his grandchildren—Jennifer Richmond, Greg (Melissa) Richmond, Jason (Brianna) Richmond, Casey (Jordan) Reagan, and Jason Kayla. He treasured the joy of being a grandfather, affectionately known as "Papaw" to his nine great-grandchildren. His love extended beyond his immediate family, encompassing numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kindness and spirit.
Don had diverse interests, often surprising others with his love for food—despite his thin stature. He enjoyed the delight of dining out and cherished the quality time spent with his son Greg on the golf course. Additionally, Don was an avid sports fan, following all sports closely, with a particular fondness for baseball and football.
He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, devotion to family, and the indelible impact he made on the lives of many. The memory of Don will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him, as they remember a life filled with laughter, love, and remarkable service.
