Donald Eugene Rauch, born on November 18, 1939, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away on March 8, 2026. He was the beloved son of Oren and Maudie Rauch. Don’s life was marked by his warmth, kindness, and an exceptional gift for storytelling that endeared him to many throughout his years.
A proud graduate of Jefferson High School in 1958, Don continued his education at Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He furthered his academic achievements with a Master’s Degree of Science (Logistics Management) from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), reflecting his dedication to knowledge and lifelong learning.
Following his education, Don served his country with distinction, serving time in Germany, before retiring as a Major in the United States Air Force. His military service exemplified his commitment and leadership, qualities that he carried into all aspects of his life.
Don was a man of diverse interests and hobbies. Well-read and an avid tinkerer, he enjoyed exploring technology, collecting cameras, and practicing photography. His love for storytelling often intertwined with his passion for the outdoors, where he found solace in hunting and fishing, including memorable outdoor trips with his stepson, Scott. He also cherished his youth spent playing baseball and football during grade school. Traveling was amongst his greatest passions and a memorable trip to Alaska made a lasting impressionable mark on him. In retirement, Don found joy in gardening and golfing with his wife, Margaret, embracing every opportunity to celebrate life.
He was an active member of the Beavercreek Senior Center, where his engaging personality shone through. He possessed a remarkable talent for dancing and would spend holiday occasions there dancing with friends. Friends and family noted his ability to giggle and enjoy life’s simple pleasures, making his presence truly radiant.
Don is survived by his loving wife, whom he married on August 3, 1991, Margaret Sanderson; his daughter, whom he was very proud of, Stacy (Lalo) Thomas; stepsons, James (Rachael) Sanderson and Scott Bembry; his sister, Margie Null; grandchildren, Rose Thomas and Luke Thomas; cousin, Eddie (Jenny) Rauch and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Maudie Rauch; his brother, Fred (Jane) Rauch; and stepson, John Sanderson.
To honor Don’s remarkable life, a Celebration of Life service will be held on March 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Community Methodist Riverside Church, where he attended for many years, located at 339 Meyer Avenue, Dayton, OH 45431.
Don leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful father and a fun grandpa by his family.
