Donald W. "Donnie" May, Jr., a man whose life was marked by laughter, loyalty, and an unyielding spirit, passed away on March 16, 2026, in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Born on July 4, 1971, Donnie entered the world with the promise of bringing light and warmth to all who knew him.
Donnie’s roots ran deep in Dayton, where he attended Meadowdale High School, laying the foundation for a life rich in relationships and endeavors. He loved working at Uno's Pizzeria and Grill, a place where he found joy and purpose, thriving in an environment where his quick wit and kind heart could shine. His love for cooking was not just about food; it was an expression of care, a way to nourish the bonds he held dear.
To know Donnie was to know a man full of humor and stubbornness, a relentless spirit who always had something to say and never hesitated to share it. His quick wit was legendary among friends and family, his kindness even more so. Above all, Donnie was a gentle soul with children, a testament to the warmth and patience that defined him. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns fan and his enthusiasm for the game was as fierce as his love for those around him.
Donnie's days were happiest when spent in the company of family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and the simple joys of life. His circle of loved ones who survive him stands as a testament to the vast impact he made: his beloved son, Tyler May; his sister, Denise Brummett; niece Brittany Brummett; nephew Bobby Brummett; and five great-nieces—Da'Lyla, Da'Leah, Da'Maih, Semaja Jenkins, and Ariel Brummett. His clan is further enriched by many other cherished family members and friends, among them Chris Binoeder, Lil Cody Ashburn, Jonathan Gray, and Tiffany Hensley. Ever faithful by his side was Cozar, his beloved dog and best friend, whose loyal companionship was a source of comfort and joy.
Donnie was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Geraldine May, his aunt, Kim McGraw, and Amber Ashburn.
Donnie leaves behind a legacy not measured merely by years, but by the laughter he sparked, the kindness he showed, and the enduring connections he forged. His spirit remains a beacon to those lucky enough to have shared in his life—a life fiercely lived, deeply loved, and never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced. Arrangements entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. To share a memory of Donnie or to leave a special message for his family, please visit www.NewcomerDayton.com
