Listen to Obituary

Donald Ray Cridlin, affectionately known as Don, passed away on November 6, 2025, in Troy, Ohio, at the age of 84. Born on January 21, 1941, in Kenvir, Kentucky, Don lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.

Having graduated from Evarts High School, Don committed himself to lifelong learning, attending Cumberland College before embarking on a remarkable career at General Motors. He dedicated over 30 years of service to the company, a testament to his strong work ethic and enduring spirit.

Don was a man of many layers, characterized by his ornery, stubborn, and feisty demeanor, yet, at the same time, he was known for his patience and fairness. A devoted family man, Don worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones and bring joy into their lives. He took great pride in his family, and his devotion shone brightly through the memories they created together.

In his leisure time, Don found comfort and joy in watching sports. He was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and OSU Buckeyes, and held a deep appreciation for University of Kentucky sports, influenced by his roots. Additionally, he was an enthusiastic member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association and found solace at Woodland Hills Baptist Church, where he nurtured his spiritual journey.

Don leaves behind a loving family that carries his spirit in their hearts. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James R. and Leah Cridlin, Brian and Judy Cridlin, and Jeffrey and Patricia Cridlin; grandchildren David, Brittney, Tiffany (Josh), Timothy (Jessica), James D. (KC), Tayler, and Abby; great-grandchildren Travis, Marley, Evan, Lily, J.R., Julienne, Zachariah, Sabrina, Tig, and Lettie; and his sister Opal Young. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.

Don is reunited in eternal peace with his beloved parents, James C. Cridlin and Abbie King, his cherished wife Phyllis Cridlin, and his son Donald Cridlin, Jr., who he missed dearly.

A visitation to honor Don's life will take place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424.  Burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City, OH.
