Donald E. Bucher, of Miamisburg and Dayton, Ohio, passed away at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of family, dedication, and quiet strength.
Don was born on March 18, 1939, to Rhea Berg and Ferry Marshall Bucher. He grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and values that would guide him throughout his life.
He was the beloved husband of Marcha L. Bucher (Stine), with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership, love, and commitment. Together, they raised three children: their son, Jon Bucher (Emily); their eldest daughter, Heather Bucher (Bill Glover); and their youngest daughter, Heidi Samlick (Jeff). Don took great pride in his family and found his greatest joy in watching it grow with grand-children and great grand-children and several nieces and nephews.
Don will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to those he loved, and the life he built alongside his wife and children. His memory will live on through his family and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferry Bucher and Rhea (Berg), brothers John Bucher (Marilyn), Kenny Bucher (Deanie), George Bucher and sister Sara (Stemple).
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton or Cigars for Warriors.
Don’s life was a testament to the importance of family, loyalty, and perseverance. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Don loved the Lord and converted to Catholicism many decades ago and enjoyed going to church.
Don was a dedicated and hard working skilled tradesman at General Motors and later Delphi working at several plant facility operations where he loyally worked as a machine repairman after his apprenticeship for 48 years.
Don especially enjoyed spending time with his grand-dogs, going for walks with them in the parks and giving belly rubs. He also liked wearing his orange apparel to show his support of the Tennessee VOLS and liked to catch a basketball game when he could. Don enjoyed being outdoors and visiting The Great Smoky Mountains and the Gatlinburg area walking through the town and hiking in the park areas. He also enjoyed watching various car races of Nascar and IRL, visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway many times with his children through the years. Though Don was often and typically quiet and reserved; he enjoyed a good laugh, good food, festivals, a good cigar and often volunteered a wisecrack just to keep it interesting.
