Don Franklin Hunter, was born in Crowell, Texas, January 5, 1941 to Milton and Lela Hunter. He was a prankster in his teen years.
As a young man, Don attended Texas Tech, then joined the Army. He was stationed in Okinawa most of his time in service. The Cuban Missile crisis caused him to be extended in Okinawa, so in 1962 he hitchhiked home to marry his high school sweetheart, Wanda.
They had two sons, Brett and Russ, who they were very proud of as well as their wives, Debbie and Dawn.
He was a proud grandfather to Amanda (Austin Vierling) and Jessica, joined by 2 great granddaughters, Harper and Piper.
After the service, he attended McMurray College in Abilene, Texas. In 1963 he went to work for NCR. Later NCR transferred him to Dayton as an instructor, then he became a Curriculum Development Analyst. In his job he was able to travel to Germany, Ireland, Australia and Canada as well as in the states.
In his private life he enjoyed traveling, cruising, water skiing, camping, square dancing, being a Cub Scout leader and little league coach and umpire. He was also a pilot and enjoyed flying his Tri-pacer.
Don was a skilled handyman- and could repair electrical, plumbing, as well as cars. He did welding and rebuilt cars from mechanical to body work for his sons. He was a landlord. He was very proud of his hedge that he kept to perfection.
He was always willing to help others, with anything from setting up computer systems for offices, helping move, and repairing airplanes. Don was a beloved father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. May he rest in peace.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
