Denise Dee Smith, age 73 of Dayton, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024. She was born September 21, 1951 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Harry and Vivian Ongell. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Guy Ongell and sister Sherry Lee.
Denise is survived by her beloved husband, David Smith; three children, Tammy (Aaron), Billy, and Anthony; two step-children, Zack and Saundra; eight grandchildren, Deanna, Andrew, Maranda, Kaitlyn, Chole, Anthony Jr., Luke, and Lane; brother, James (Tamme) Ongell; and nephew, Jimmy; and special nephew Gary. Denise loved to watch the Wizard of OZ and was affectionately known as the good witch since she often brought magic into the lives of others. She enjoyed dancing and listening to Elvis. Denise accompanied her husband David to play the harmonica while he played the guitar. The most important thing to Denise was her family and she believed our greatest glory in life is not when we fall but rising when we do. She is well loved and will be deeply missed.
The family hopes those who would like to honor her will find a quiet time to remember who she was in your life and be thankful for the time you had together. In lieu of a public funeral service, individual families are encouraged to have their own private memorial. She will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery.
