Delta Sue Darnell, "Susie," a cherished mother, grandmother, and longtime community member, passed away unexpectedly at her home on May 21, 2026. Born on July 9, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio, Susie lived a life marked by warmth, dedication, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

A proud graduate of Northridge High School, Susie's professional journey was defined by her unwavering commitment and diligent work ethic. She devoted many years of her career to Midas, where she served as a secretary and played a crucial role in managing the day-to-day operations with efficiency and grace. In the years before her retirement, she lent her friendly and welcoming presence as a receptionist at Stoney Ridge, becoming a familiar and beloved figure to all.

Susie was known not only for her professional dedication but also for her vibrant personality. Quick with a joke and forever young at heart, she often described herself as "forever 21." Her love for life was evident in the way she embraced every season, especially Christmas, which she made extraordinarily special year after year, creating lasting memories for family and friends alike. Her passions extended to the simple joys of life—flowers, Esther Price chocolate candy, country music and attending country concerts, relaxing days at the beach, and the occasional indulgence in a good strawberry daiquiri.

Deeply devoted to her family, Susie took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Renata "Lynn" (John) Lucas and Jennifer Gunter, and her grandchildren, Toby Byrd (Ariel Ivey), Dylan Byrd (Marah Click), along with her great-grandson, Toby Byrd Jr., and a great-granddaughter on the way. She also leaves behind her step-daughters Angela Burton, Brandi Hunter, Carolyn (Daniel) Frizzell, her sister Nancy Lewis, and brother Curt (Brenda) Lewis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who carry forward her legacy of kindness and humor.

Susie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ralph and Delta Lewis; her devoted husband, Ronald Darnell; and her sister, Pat Hodge. Their memories remain a cherished part of her life story.

As we remember Susie, we honor a woman whose life was filled with love, laughter, and dedication. Her departure leaves a profound void, yet her spirit endures in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be remembered as a loving matriarch, a spirited and compassionate friend, and a beacon of joy to all who crossed her path.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
