Deanna Lynn Skapiak

Deanna Lynn Skapiak, 80, of the Germantown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on May 20, 1946, in Binghamton, New York, Deanna was the beloved daughter of the late Fred and June Bronson. She graduated from Chenango Valley High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Albany. She continued her education at Syracuse University, where she earned a Master of Arts degree and completed all but her dissertation toward a Ph.D., reflecting her lifelong passion for learning and intellectual curiosity.

On July 12, 1969, Deanna married the love of her life, John T. Skapiak. Together they shared 57 years of marriage built on love, partnership, and devotion. After beginning their life together in Syracuse, New York, they raised their two daughters there before relocating to the Dayton, Ohio, area in 2005 to be closer to their growing family and cherished grandchildren.

Deanna began her professional career as a schoolteacher before dedicating herself full-time to raising her daughters. As they grew older, she returned to the workforce as a hydrogeologist, combining her love of science and the environment in meaningful work. Following the family's move to Ohio, she returned to education as a high school science teacher at Little Miami High School, where she inspired students with her knowledge and enthusiasm for science.

A lifelong volunteer, Deanna believed in giving back to her community. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader, was a licensed amateur radio operator, and was a dedicated conservationist who cared deeply about protecting the natural world. She also treasured the friendships she found through her book club, the Foxy Ladies Lunch Club, and her quilt guild. Whether sharing a good book, stitching a quilt, or spending time with friends, Deanna found joy in lifelong learning and meaningful connections.

Above all, Deanna's greatest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, John T. Skapiak; her daughters, Deanna J. Andzik and Tammy (Bob) Wolf; brothers, Durwood (Sharon) Bronson, Douglas (Toni) Bronson, Duane (Mary Ellen) Bronson, and Dale (Patti) Bronson; and her beloved grandchildren, Shelby Andzik, Emma Wolf, Dylan Wolf, and Logan Skapiak; each of whom brought immeasurable happiness to her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and June Bronson, parents-in-law, Thomas and Jane Skapiak; and brother, Darwin Bronson.

Deanna will be remembered for her intelligence, generosity, curiosity, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to her family, her students, and her community. She leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and lifelong learning that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, OH 45459). A Celebration of Deanna's life will begin at 12:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Ruby Harp.
