David Westheimer, age 78, passed away on October 26, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio after a lengthy illness.
Born on April 23, 1947, in Houston, Texas, David graduated from Bellaire High School and spent many years in Texas before ultimately settling in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A lifelong lover of music, David’s tastes were eclectic—ranging from blues and classic country to punk rock. He was a talented guitarist and bass player and restorer of Fender guitars, and for the past 15 years, he owned and moderated an online bass forum called The Last Bass Outpost.
David had a good sense of humor and enjoyed stand-up comedians, British television, and pop culture nostalgia. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of Houston’s social history circa 1950-1980 and was a longtime contributor to the Houston Architecture Information Forum (HAIF).
David’s greatest joys were his beloved Norwegian Elkhounds—Chopper, Shadow, and Dagney—and his rescues, Jody, Dakota, and Joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Wisenberg, and by his mother and stepfather, Bettie (Westheimer) and Otto Schlamme. David is survived by his two sons, Keith (Laurie) Westheimer and Karl “Steve” Westheimer; his three siblings, Wendy (Tom) Kincaid of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Solomon (Adrienne) Wisenberg of Houston, Texas; and, Dinah (Joe) Brin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life with family and friends is being planned for a later date in Minneapolis.
