David Lee Ruth Sr., born on August 6, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, in his hometown. He was 84 years old.
David's journey began in Dayton, where he was raised by his mother, Frances Ruth and the Hughes Family, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his father, Jack Ruth; stepmother, Sylvia; sisters, Jackie and Nancy; his niece, Katrina, and Sandy’s parents, Roy and Ruby Prater. Despite these losses, David filled his own life with deep love and meaningful connections that created a lasting legacy.
David graduated from Stebbins High School as a proud member of the Class of 1960, a milestone that marked the beginning of a lifetime rooted in hard work and commitment. His professional life was defined by dedication and reliability, retiring after years of service at both Hobart and Securitas. Whether working in a warehouse or serving diligently as a security guard, David approached his career with steadfastness and a quiet pride.
At the heart of David's life was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy, who stood by him through the years, sharing in life's joys and challenges. David leaves behind his son, David Ruth Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Amy, and his daughter, Stacey Ruth. His love for his family extended even further to his grandchildren: Autumn, Brittany, Brenda, Jon, Amber and Britt, as well as his 8 great-grandchildren—each of whom brought him immeasurable joy and pride.
A family man in every sense, David cherished spending time with his loved ones above all else. He delighted in gatherings that echoed with laughter, his loving and funny nature often putting others at ease. Friends and family remember him as friendly and caring, as well as quietly observant—a man whose presence made everyone feel understood. His stubborn streak and gentle humor were trademarks that endeared him further to those who knew him well.
David also enjoyed watching sports, finding comfort and entertainment in the excitement of the game. These simple pleasures, alongside the happiness he found watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, colored his retirement years and brought an enduring sense of contentment.
Though words can only give a glimpse into the richness of David's life, those who knew him will remember him for his unwavering devotion, steadfast character, and the profound love he bestowed upon his family. His legacy is carried forward by all who had the privilege to share in his journey.
David will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
