Danny Lee Fugate

Danny Lee Fugate, 65, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on September 9, 2026, in Columbus after a brief battle with cancer.

Born on September 5, 1961, in Hazard, Kentucky, Danny was a gentle, kind, caring, and loving man whose life was rooted in devotion to the people he loved most. He was hardworking by nature and a devoted family man, remembered for the steady way he cared for those around him and for the warmth he brought into their lives.

Danny owned Fugate's Tree Service, and he was dedicated to building his family business through hard work and perseverance; leaving behind a legacy that his family will continue to uphold. That same dedication shaped the rest of his life as well. He found peace in nature, enjoyed going for walks, and took pleasure in feeding animals. In quiet moments and in everyday routines, he carried a deep appreciation for the simple things that brought comfort and calm.

More than anything, Danny’s family was his pride and joy. He took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he loved to spoil and dote on those he held dear. His love was generous and constant, and his presence gave his family a sense of strength, tenderness, and home. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 47 years, Carla Fugate, with whom he shared a long and enduring marriage.

In addition to his wife, Danny is survived by his daughter, Amanda Hurd and her husband, Chuck. He also leaves his grandchildren, Dillon Fugate-Vaughn and his fiancé, MacKenzie, and Haley Curtis and her husband, Larry, and Travis Marcum; as well as his great-grandchildren, Tate, Silas, and Hadley. He is also survived by his brothers, James Fugate and his partner, Tonia, and Ronnie Fugate and wife, Sharon; his brother-in-law, Cordis Bishop; and his nephew, Sean Bishop. And many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Each of them carries forward the memory of a man who was deeply devoted to his family and generous in his love. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Freeman Fugate; his mother, Cassie Neff; his brother, Donnie Fugate; his sister-in-law, Kelly Fugate; his sister, Deborah Morgan; and his sister, Gloria Bishop.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 2:15 p.m. at Dayton Memorial Park, 8135 N Dixie Dr, Dayton, Ohio 45414.

Danny will be remembered for his gentle heart, his hardworking spirit, and the deep love he gave so freely to his family. His memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew and loved him.
